Thanksgiving in Las Vegas

This year David and I traveled to Las Vegas for Thanksgiving, which is something that we haven't done for three years. Some thing that we did that was fun was recreating a photo that was taken in David's grandparent's backyard by David's dad our first Thanksgiving three years ago when we were still dating:

One of my favorite memories from that trip three years ago was when we were driving over to visit his grandparents. David received a text message from his sister-in-law while he was driving and to be safe, I took his phone to read it for him. The text read, "I like this girl, you should marry her." I felt flustered and when David asked me what the text said I responded as nonchalantly as I could. "It's your sister, she says she likes me." When David got his phone back after we arrived at our destination, he gave me a look and said, "Hey! That's not what the text said!"

For Thanksgiving this year we ate at David's grandparent's place. They cooked the turkey in a dutch oven, which was a first for me! One of our jobs was to help set up the tables and chairs so that we could fit all 28 people in the same room.

We spent time with David's cousins that evening. We played our second-ever game of cliche movie Bingo where you pick a film of any genre (in our case it was end-of-the-world-disaster movies) and then brainstorm cliche events you think will happen in the movie. You input the events in an online bingo scorecard maker, print out the cards, and call out the cliches as they happen in the movie. Here was the scorecard for San Andreas:

The following morning we, along with some of David's cousins, went hiking at Red Rock. All of the guys managed to injure themselves in some way (Mr. D got a nice mark on his arm), but they sure appeared to be having a fun time. (More pictures from our hiking adventure at the bottom)

We spent time with each of David's siblings and also drove up to St. George to visit with more friends.

One of our favorite things to do is go to The Strip and visit the Bellagio to see the fountains and the garden conservatory. We were disappointed to find out that we missed the Thanksgiving decorations at the conservatory, but we still got to see the fountain.

We made sure to visit our favorite Las Vegas food places as well as ones that have been recently recommended to us including Cafe Rio, KoMex, and ShakeShack.

On our last day we visited Mount Charleston. It is still crazy to me that you can get snow and pine trees 30 minutes from Las Vegas.

My sister Torrey's Wedding to Hyrum

A couple weeks ago David and I took a trip just the two of us to Utah for my sister's wedding! Spending time in Utah was very special for me.  We left our three boys back home and our cousin Trevin watched them for us. (While we were gone, Trevin sent "proof of life" photos as well as several photos of their adventures so that we wouldn't worry about our kids.) We stayed with David's sister who recently moved to north Provo area. The evening before my sister's wedding we had a family dinner where we all got to make toasts for Torrey and Hyrum and celebrate them. Torrey told me that my husband's toast for her was one of her favorites.  I got to be there with Torrey and Hyrum in the Payson Utah Temple. I got to see family and catch up with old friends who have since moved to the Utah area. I loved being a part of Torrey's wedding and celebrating her and Hyrum meeting each other and being able to enter this next stage of life together and a married couple...

We are Utahn's now!

We've moved to Highland Utah and are enjoying this new chapter of our lives here! We have discovered that Utah has lovely late summer/early falls. The weather is nice out each day and we are finding ourselves spending a lot of time outside. The kids ride bikes and scooters in the front yard in our cul-de-sac with the neighborhood kids. Our neighbors are warm and friendly. Now that we live on a flat street, Neil has learned how to ride a bike. We live near a paved bike trail called the Murdock trail that is amazing. We enjoy going to Neil's soccer games as a family. The doorbell rings every day with neighbor kids coming over to play. James was invited to his second-ever friend birthday party. Feel free to comment with what you like about where you live and your favorite things to do outdoors.

Birthday month for the boys!

Something fun in our home is that our boys all have May birthdays. We loved celebrating their birthdays with them and their friends this year. We tried to make each child's birthday special.  We also had a neighborhood community party!
