Back in July, David and I looked at homes as we considered moving here to Utah. One feature that was a little bit unique about our home we ended up picking, is that it has two primary bedrooms (one on the main floor and second one upstairs). We thought it would make sense for each of our three boys to have their own rooms upstairs (with us on the main floor), but that meant one of them would get the primary suite, which seemed a little much to us. We decided that our oldest son could have the big bedroom, but told him that he would need to share it when we have guests over. So far the arrangement has been working well.
We were hopeful my parents (who still live in the Seattle area we left) would visit us often as well as my sister and her husband who currently live in Texas. We added a king bed and have been using it to lure our family members into visiting us. We are pleased to share that we've gotten to host them several times. At Christmas we got a little creative with our extra twin mattresses and hosted most my family at our home. We would love to host more friends and family so please let me know if you'd like to plan a trip to Utah and see and stay with us while you're here!
Here are some before and after photos of the room (scroll down towards the bottom for the before photos).
As you can see, we have a beautiful big, king bed in the room, some lovely Utah and National Parks themed decor, wifi, and you'll have a beautiful view of Lone Peak from the room (Note: if you have a high attention to detail you'll see in the photo of the mountain that we live next to a gigantic family park your kids will love). Plan your trip to visit us today.
Here are the before photos and note to why the bedspread is purple: When we first moved to Utah we very briefly got to bring our au pair Mariana with us and she stayed in the upstairs primary suite. We are hoping she likes how we've redone the room when she comes and stays with us for a weekend in a couple months.
We don't know much about decorating, and so we got help from a friend of mine from high school who was willing to give us remote help by helping us design the space: https://www.instagram.com/collected.design/ I am really happy with how this project turned out and would be happy to share more about our experience if you message me. Or I can tell you about it when you come visit.
