Highlights from Thanksgiving

For Thanksgiving this year David, my parents, my little sister and I all went to Oregon to visit our cousins. We haven't been down to Salem since I was in high school, but we tricked them into inviting us over by first inviting them to come to Seattle, knowing they'd invite us to visit their place.
We had a wonderful time and are so thankful for our family. Here are some highlights:
They have a son who returned from his 2 year Mormon mission in Brazil a couple months ago. Connor goes to USC and he showed us a YouTube video he made on campus before his mission as a sexy saxophone player.

We all got a pretty good laugh. We also loved a story his aunt shared about a conversation between a couple she overheard at Walmart:
Guy: What do you need in this aisle?
Girl: A toothbrush.
Guy: Why, we have one at home.
Girl: I want my own.
Guy: Why, I don't use it.
Girl: I just want a new one.
Guy: I don't understand why you won't use the one we have just because it isn't new.
Their family loves entertaining and so the day following our Thanksgiving feast they showed off their outdoor wood-burning pizza oven. David makes pretty good pizza, but our pizza stone really can't compare to their wood burning oven.

David's a big Oregon ducks fan and he was very happy to find that they were Ducks fans too. It was a pretty big game, Oregon Ducks vs. Oregon State Beavers, nicknamed the Civil War. We were all cheering for the Ducks (except for my dad who just cheered for every good play), ate homemade pizza, and enjoyed the company.
Sometime during the trip we owned up to trying to trick them into inviting ourselves over and they told us we didn't have to try to trick them anymore, but that if we wanted to come visit them again for Thanksgiving we were more than invited. :)

My sister Torrey's Wedding to Hyrum

A couple weeks ago David and I took a trip just the two of us to Utah for my sister's wedding! Spending time in Utah was very special for me.  We left our three boys back home and our cousin Trevin watched them for us. (While we were gone, Trevin sent "proof of life" photos as well as several photos of their adventures so that we wouldn't worry about our kids.) We stayed with David's sister who recently moved to north Provo area. The evening before my sister's wedding we had a family dinner where we all got to make toasts for Torrey and Hyrum and celebrate them. Torrey told me that my husband's toast for her was one of her favorites.  I got to be there with Torrey and Hyrum in the Payson Utah Temple. I got to see family and catch up with old friends who have since moved to the Utah area. I loved being a part of Torrey's wedding and celebrating her and Hyrum meeting each other and being able to enter this next stage of life together and a married couple...

We are Utahn's now!

We've moved to Highland Utah and are enjoying this new chapter of our lives here! We have discovered that Utah has lovely late summer/early falls. The weather is nice out each day and we are finding ourselves spending a lot of time outside. The kids ride bikes and scooters in the front yard in our cul-de-sac with the neighborhood kids. Our neighbors are warm and friendly. Now that we live on a flat street, Neil has learned how to ride a bike. We live near a paved bike trail called the Murdock trail that is amazing. We enjoy going to Neil's soccer games as a family. The doorbell rings every day with neighbor kids coming over to play. James was invited to his second-ever friend birthday party. Feel free to comment with what you like about where you live and your favorite things to do outdoors.

Birthday month for the boys!

Something fun in our home is that our boys all have May birthdays. We loved celebrating their birthdays with them and their friends this year. We tried to make each child's birthday special.  We also had a neighborhood community party!
