How We Rock The Weekends

Rocking the Weekend

Chaperons at a dance

One Saturday night, Mr. D and I volunteered to be chaperons at a youth dance in Bellevue. As we were driving there, Mr. D asked if I thought my younger sister would be at the dance. I told him that she was in the Redmond stake and we were going to a Bellevue stake dance, so we wouldn't, but just in case we tried to think of a few ways we could embarrass her if we saw her.

When we arrived, we started walking through the packed gym, looking for the woman in charge to be assigned a responsibility. Within the first 30 seconds, we bumped into none other than my younger sister! I was surprised to see her, and she was ecstatic, wanting to introduce me to all her friends.

We left the gym, found the woman in charge, and received a job. We learned that we were at a five-stake dance and the 300+ youth there were many of the kids on the east side. Throughout the night we tried to embarrass my sister, but we didn't do a very good job though because she would just laugh at our attempts. We were glad we chose to volunteer to be chaperons at the dance.

Seeing friends in a rock band

On another Saturday night, Mr. D and I went to a house party to watch some of our friends who are in a rock band perform. They performed rock covers from bands including Sublime, Coldplay, and Paramore. The best part of it was knowing that the young lead singer with the purple hair was also six months pregnant.

Come visit us in Utah and stay in our Primary Suite

Back in July, David and I looked at homes as we considered moving here to Utah. One feature that was a little bit unique about our home we ended up picking, is that it has two primary bedrooms (one on the main floor and second one upstairs). We thought it would make sense for each of our three boys to have their own rooms upstairs (with us on the main floor), but that meant one of them would get the primary suite, which seemed a little much to us. We decided that our oldest son could have the big bedroom, but told him that he would need to share it when we have guests over. So far the arrangement has been working well.  We were hopeful my parents (who still live in the Seattle area we left) would visit us often as well as my sister and her husband who currently live in Texas. We added a king bed and have been using it to lure our family members into visiting us. We are pleased to share that we've gotten to host them several times. At Christmas we got a little creative with our extr...

We are Utahn's now!

We've moved to Highland Utah and are enjoying this new chapter of our lives here! We have discovered that Utah has lovely late summer/early falls. The weather is nice out each day and we are finding ourselves spending a lot of time outside. The kids ride bikes and scooters in the front yard in our cul-de-sac with the neighborhood kids. Our neighbors are warm and friendly. Now that we live on a flat street, Neil has learned how to ride a bike. We live near a paved bike trail called the Murdock trail that is amazing. We enjoy going to Neil's soccer games as a family. The doorbell rings every day with neighbor kids coming over to play. James was invited to his second-ever friend birthday party. Feel free to comment with what you like about where you live and your favorite things to do outdoors.

Sean and Eunice's wedding celebration!

This past weekend we got to celebrate with our friends Sean and Eunice at their wedding! With help from our nanny, my brother and his wife, and a babysitter, we were able to trust that our kids would be okay back home for the weekend. Based on the photo below, can you guess what airport we flew to? We flew from Provo to Portland! I guess this carpet has been teased as very ugly and it was a trend a while back to take photos of your feet with the carpet when you pass through the Portland airport on social media. Most of the carpet has been replaced at the airport and the Portland airport has also been significantly beautified since.  We got to see many people we love. On Saturday before the meet and greet at the wedding, we were able to hike a section of the Pacific Coast Trail, a trail that goes thru the United States from Mexico to Canada ( https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pacific_Crest_Trail ) with our friend Dan.  The connection of us to Sean and Eunice and a subgroup of the g...
