Southern California Trip

Aboard the USS IOWA
This year Mr. D and I decided to visit southern California. For the first part of the trip, we stayed with Mr. D’s sister’s family, then we saw a few of our old friends who now live in California, and for the last part we met up with my parents and a few relatives to see a game at the Rose Bowl.

Some food highlights from staying with Mr. D’s sister’s family include doughnuts on the beach, homemade ribs, pizza, and breakfast smoothies. We also had the chance to go to the San Diego Safari Park. Mr. D's nephews loved seeing the animals.

After visiting them, we drove a rental car north to see friends who recently moved to California from our neighborhood in Issaquah. Our friend happens to be our hair stylist (who we haven’t been able to replace) and she offered to cut both Mr. D's hair and my hair.

While spending time with them, we took a ride in their 1966 Ford mustang convertible and went to the beach together.

We also got to visit with one of my old friends from a summer internship. We’re looking forward to his wedding in a few months.

When my family got into to town we decided to spend a morning riding bikes along the beach. We managed to get a selfie of us on the beach cruisers.

Some touristy adventures include visiting the USS IOWA, the Aquarium of the Pacific, the Walt Disney Concert Hall, and Paramount Studios.

We culminated our trip with the BYU v UCLA game at the Rose Bowl. We did end up loosing by a point, but it was still a very exciting game.

  1. Sounds like fun! Love the Forrest Gump photo :) What constitutes a "breakfast smoothie"??

  2. Glad to hear you like the Forrest Gump photo.

The breakfast smoothies had peaches, mangos, spinach, orange juice... and probably a few other secret ingredients. :)

My sister Torrey's Wedding to Hyrum

A couple weeks ago David and I took a trip just the two of us to Utah for my sister's wedding! Spending time in Utah was very special for me.  We left our three boys back home and our cousin Trevin watched them for us. (While we were gone, Trevin sent "proof of life" photos as well as several photos of their adventures so that we wouldn't worry about our kids.) We stayed with David's sister who recently moved to north Provo area. The evening before my sister's wedding we had a family dinner where we all got to make toasts for Torrey and Hyrum and celebrate them. Torrey told me that my husband's toast for her was one of her favorites.  I got to be there with Torrey and Hyrum in the Payson Utah Temple. I got to see family and catch up with old friends who have since moved to the Utah area. I loved being a part of Torrey's wedding and celebrating her and Hyrum meeting each other and being able to enter this next stage of life together and a married couple...

We are Utahn's now!

We've moved to Highland Utah and are enjoying this new chapter of our lives here! We have discovered that Utah has lovely late summer/early falls. The weather is nice out each day and we are finding ourselves spending a lot of time outside. The kids ride bikes and scooters in the front yard in our cul-de-sac with the neighborhood kids. Our neighbors are warm and friendly. Now that we live on a flat street, Neil has learned how to ride a bike. We live near a paved bike trail called the Murdock trail that is amazing. We enjoy going to Neil's soccer games as a family. The doorbell rings every day with neighbor kids coming over to play. James was invited to his second-ever friend birthday party. Feel free to comment with what you like about where you live and your favorite things to do outdoors.

Birthday month for the boys!

Something fun in our home is that our boys all have May birthdays. We loved celebrating their birthdays with them and their friends this year. We tried to make each child's birthday special.  We also had a neighborhood community party!
