Summertime

Summer is here! We've already taken Neil out on a couple bike rides and hope to do lots more. Neil loves being outside and was so comfortable on this bike ride that he fell right asleep. We love summertime weather here in the PNW. We recently purchased a hiking backpack and are looking forward to seeing what hiking with Neil is like with it.

Neil switched daycare classes and as part of the transition moved to one nap. As he was adjusting to the new schedule, we were able to capture a time when he started falling asleep during lunch before his nap.
Recently Neil had surgery to get ear tubes for his ear infections. We were excited about it since he's had 12 in the last six months and we are looking forward to not going to the doctor every other week for antibiotics now.
This past year Mr. D has been a big ice hockey Las Vegas Golden Knights fan, and our Uncle Ryan (a long-time Caps fan) decided to nurture a future Caps fan in little Neil Ryan by sending him a few Caps onesies after they beat the Golden Knights to win the Stanley Cup. The Golden Knights had an amazing and unexpected season, but unfortunately in the end couldn't beat the Washington Capitals.
Neil loves helping around the house. He has lots of chores.
Neil's favorite place is outside. We like to take him on walks in the stroller or carrier in the evenings and he complains every time we go back inside. He loves being on the balcony when our UPS driver comes by since they are are a first-name basis.
Neil helping organize the pots and pans to their special places on the floor. (This is one of his especially time-consuming chores.)
Neil is proficient at climbing up and down the stairs.

Sean and Eunice's wedding celebration!

This past weekend we got to celebrate with our friends Sean and Eunice at their wedding! With help from our nanny, my brother and his wife, and a babysitter, we were able to trust that our kids would be okay back home for the weekend. Based on the photo below, can you guess what airport we flew to? We flew from Provo to Portland! I guess this carpet has been teased as very ugly and it was a trend a while back to take photos of your feet with the carpet when you pass through the Portland airport on social media. Most of the carpet has been replaced at the airport and the Portland airport has also been significantly beautified since.  We got to see many people we love. On Saturday before the meet and greet at the wedding, we were able to hike a section of the Pacific Coast Trail, a trail that goes thru the United States from Mexico to Canada ( https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pacific_Crest_Trail ) with our friend Dan.  The connection of us to Sean and Eunice and a subgroup of the g...

Outside and enjoying the sunshine

Our family recently crossed the 1 year in Utah mark. We've really enjoyed exploring the area and being outside. We love going on the Murdock trail near our home.  Recently our oldest, Neil, went on his longest bike ride ever (a 20 mile trip!) and rode from where we live in Highland down to the Lindon temple (and back home).  The boys love biking and scootering and visiting the various parks nearby. We've been really happy with our ebike (a radwagon) and this past summer added a couple escooters (secondhand segway ninebots). Hope you've had a great summer.
