Trip to Las Vegas and St. George

We took a two-week trip to Las Vegas to visit David's family for the Christmas holiday! We spent the majority of the trip staying at my sister-in-law's home, taking little trips each day to visit different family members and friends (grandparents, parents, siblings, cousins, high school buddies, etc.). For New Years we drove the two hours to St. George where we met up with my family (my parents, grandma, brother, and a few aunts/uncles). On our vacation we ate Christmas morning omelettes, hiked around Red Rock, went sledding in the snow, rung in the New Year, and visited the gardens at the Bellagio.

Overall Neil did really well on the trip! He started the trip with only a couple words, but now he can boast almost 20. He continues to be very expressive in communicating his wants and needs, and we are proud of all the growth we saw during the trip. While there were a few missed naps and adjustments for Neil, overall he did great and there was a lot of opportunity to catch up with friends and family. Our vacation didn't feel rushed, but was rather quite relaxing, which isn't what we expected when we planned our trip with an 18 month old.

Neil's favorite part of the trip was discovering escalators!

Come visit us in Utah and stay in our Primary Suite

Back in July, David and I looked at homes as we considered moving here to Utah. One feature that was a little bit unique about our home we ended up picking, is that it has two primary bedrooms (one on the main floor and second one upstairs). We thought it would make sense for each of our three boys to have their own rooms upstairs (with us on the main floor), but that meant one of them would get the primary suite, which seemed a little much to us. We decided that our oldest son could have the big bedroom, but told him that he would need to share it when we have guests over. So far the arrangement has been working well.  We were hopeful my parents (who still live in the Seattle area we left) would visit us often as well as my sister and her husband who currently live in Texas. We added a king bed and have been using it to lure our family members into visiting us. We are pleased to share that we've gotten to host them several times. At Christmas we got a little creative with our extr...

We are Utahn's now!

We've moved to Highland Utah and are enjoying this new chapter of our lives here! We have discovered that Utah has lovely late summer/early falls. The weather is nice out each day and we are finding ourselves spending a lot of time outside. The kids ride bikes and scooters in the front yard in our cul-de-sac with the neighborhood kids. Our neighbors are warm and friendly. Now that we live on a flat street, Neil has learned how to ride a bike. We live near a paved bike trail called the Murdock trail that is amazing. We enjoy going to Neil's soccer games as a family. The doorbell rings every day with neighbor kids coming over to play. James was invited to his second-ever friend birthday party. Feel free to comment with what you like about where you live and your favorite things to do outdoors.

Sean and Eunice's wedding celebration!

This past weekend we got to celebrate with our friends Sean and Eunice at their wedding! With help from our nanny, my brother and his wife, and a babysitter, we were able to trust that our kids would be okay back home for the weekend. Based on the photo below, can you guess what airport we flew to? We flew from Provo to Portland! I guess this carpet has been teased as very ugly and it was a trend a while back to take photos of your feet with the carpet when you pass through the Portland airport on social media. Most of the carpet has been replaced at the airport and the Portland airport has also been significantly beautified since.  We got to see many people we love. On Saturday before the meet and greet at the wedding, we were able to hike a section of the Pacific Coast Trail, a trail that goes thru the United States from Mexico to Canada ( https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pacific_Crest_Trail ) with our friend Dan.  The connection of us to Sean and Eunice and a subgroup of the g...
