A Year Post Cancer Discovery - Moving towards Normal Life

One year ago on June 2nd we learned that James had pediatric kidney cancer. Now he's better! This coming Monday James will visit Seattle Children's hospital for his three month post treatment checkup. Our family is deeply grateful to be able to turn to a new chapter as a family.

About a month ago, David and I went to Hawaii just the two of us and had a great trip! We celebrated our 10 year anniversary and James being cancer free. We spent time on O'ahu and the big island. We did a lot of snorkeling and got to enjoy seeing coral, all kinds of fish, and sea life. We even found a sea turtle! For a portion of our trip we stayed with family and got to be leisurely toured around and entertained by them. It was delightful.

After we got back from Hawaii, we celebrated our three boys' May birthdays. We've taken a lot of time to enjoy our kids and time as a family. The weather is starting to get sunny and we've been having water balloon fights at home and also taking the boys on the e-bike to local parks.

We've been soaking up our lives feeling a bit more normal. Today David took the two older boys biking and to the park while I stayed home and played with Isaac. Our oldest, Neil, will soon finish his kindergarten year at school. This past week we have been starting the potty training journey with James. He is learning to listen to his body and to tell us when he needs to use the potty. Isaac loves to impress us with his walking. Overall we are happy.

I noticed I never shared Isaac's newborn photos, so here are a couple bonus throwback photos to Isaac's baby photoshoot from a year ago!

Come visit us in Utah and stay in our Primary Suite

Back in July, David and I looked at homes as we considered moving here to Utah. One feature that was a little bit unique about our home we ended up picking, is that it has two primary bedrooms (one on the main floor and second one upstairs). We thought it would make sense for each of our three boys to have their own rooms upstairs (with us on the main floor), but that meant one of them would get the primary suite, which seemed a little much to us. We decided that our oldest son could have the big bedroom, but told him that he would need to share it when we have guests over. So far the arrangement has been working well.  We were hopeful my parents (who still live in the Seattle area we left) would visit us often as well as my sister and her husband who currently live in Texas. We added a king bed and have been using it to lure our family members into visiting us. We are pleased to share that we've gotten to host them several times. At Christmas we got a little creative with our extr...

We are Utahn's now!

We've moved to Highland Utah and are enjoying this new chapter of our lives here! We have discovered that Utah has lovely late summer/early falls. The weather is nice out each day and we are finding ourselves spending a lot of time outside. The kids ride bikes and scooters in the front yard in our cul-de-sac with the neighborhood kids. Our neighbors are warm and friendly. Now that we live on a flat street, Neil has learned how to ride a bike. We live near a paved bike trail called the Murdock trail that is amazing. We enjoy going to Neil's soccer games as a family. The doorbell rings every day with neighbor kids coming over to play. James was invited to his second-ever friend birthday party. Feel free to comment with what you like about where you live and your favorite things to do outdoors.

Sean and Eunice's wedding celebration!

This past weekend we got to celebrate with our friends Sean and Eunice at their wedding! With help from our nanny, my brother and his wife, and a babysitter, we were able to trust that our kids would be okay back home for the weekend. Based on the photo below, can you guess what airport we flew to? We flew from Provo to Portland! I guess this carpet has been teased as very ugly and it was a trend a while back to take photos of your feet with the carpet when you pass through the Portland airport on social media. Most of the carpet has been replaced at the airport and the Portland airport has also been significantly beautified since.  We got to see many people we love. On Saturday before the meet and greet at the wedding, we were able to hike a section of the Pacific Coast Trail, a trail that goes thru the United States from Mexico to Canada ( https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pacific_Crest_Trail ) with our friend Dan.  The connection of us to Sean and Eunice and a subgroup of the g...
